PELVIC PHYSIOTHERAPY: TELL ME MORE
What is a Pelvic Floor Physiotherapist?
Pelvic floor physiotherapists are Registered Physiotherapists that have specialized training in order to assess internal pelvic floor muscles. This can play a really important role to help your physiotherapist understand the root problem and provide you with an effective treatment plan.

What happens at an Initial Assessment?
With informed consent, your initial assessment will typically include a detailed history of your concerns and general health and a physical assessment of areas such as alignment, breathing, movement strategies, ability to engage your abdominal muscles and an internal/external pelvic floor exam. Prior to any internal exam, your therapist will explain what to expect and can discuss the risks, benefits and alternatives to help you make an informed decision.

Is there a cancellation policy?
If you are an in-home client, I ask that you please advise me 24 hours in advance of your appointment if you'd like to reschedule or cancel. This gives me some time to adjust my day and/or schedule other clients. The clinics that I work at have their own cancellation policies ranging from 2-3 business days to avoid a cancellation fee.

Can I claim this through my insurance?
Yes! All pelvic physiotherapists are registered physiotherapists and can provide you with a receipt that includes information you need to claim these treatments under your extended health benefit plan.

Am I still able to receive treatment if I have my period? What about an infection?
During your period, you are still able to receive treatment (and some clients find that it can even help reduce discomfort at this time!). That said, if you're not comfortable with it please let me know 24 hours ahead of time and we can reschedule. If you have an active infection such as a urinary tract infection or yeast infection you must have taken 2 days or 4 treatments of antibiotics before an internal manual therapy can be performed. We can still work on may external factors such as posture, breathing, gait, external muscle release.
